Make a Bamboo Handbag
February 2 @ 10:00 am - February 3 @ 4:00 pm PST
When traveling through Japan one sees bamboo baskets everywhere. The baskets are used to hold everyday objects, are incorporated into tea ceremony, and carried around as purses. In this class we will learn about bamboo as a plant and art material, see demonstrations of creating basket materials, look at bamboo baskets through a powerpoint lecture, Most importantly, we will make a simple rectangular bamboo basket which can be used as a purse or container to hold objects. Baskets will be made out of pre-prepared bamboo strips. Every student will walk away with a basket and a memory of making their own.
