“Unrehearsed” A two person show with Charissa Brock and Parvin at JG Gallery, Bainbridge WA

October 2 - October 30

The Show

No blueprints. Charissa Brock hand-splits harvested bamboo into forms echoing ancient

tools and vessels. Parvin, raised in Iran’s hillsides and along the Caspian coast, paints

straight onto raw canvas — no sketch, no plan. Two artists, one instinct: trust the material,

trust the memory, let the form arrive on its own.

The Artists

Parvin — Oil on Canvas

Iranian-born; Pacific Northwest practice

Parvin grew up in the Iranian hillsides, with visits to the Caspian Sea coast that still surface in her work

today. She emigrated to the United States at age eight, returned to Iran for high school, then studied

Story Illustration at the Chouinard Art Institute (now CalArts). Her career moved from story to

advertising to fashion illustration before settling into fine art. She works without preliminary sketches,

often pouring paint directly onto the canvas. Microsoft and Boeing executives are among her collectors,

with work exhibited across Florida, Montana, and Washington. Currently represented by JG Art Gallery

and Dana Gallery.

Charissa Brock — Bamboo Sculpture · Invited Artist

Fiber artist, Portland-area, Oregon

Working with bamboo since 1999, Brock harvests and heat-treats each cane herself before splitting it

using traditional Japanese techniques, building abstract wall and hanging sculptures from wood, glass,

waxed linen thread, and paper. She holds a BFA in Glass from the Center for Creative Studies and an

MFA in Fibers from Tyler School of Art. Her work draws on landscape, archaeological artifact, and

bamboo’s own growth patterns, referencing ancient tools, weapons, and instruments to ask what story

an object carries forward.
